Ripple Rhythms
Ripple Rhythms is a series which explores using a press-off knit structure to shape the fabric. The initial inspiration was found in a collage by Sonia Delaunay, focusing on the sense of movement created by color and shape. Through many experiments, I discovered the ability to sculpt the fabric beyond a flat rectangle by combining sections of press-off with single jersey. The final collection was developed through iterations of changing the jersey placement, creating more volume options with different amounts of press-off, yarn stiffness, and finishing.

A fashion collection was developed in tandem with the textiles. Additional colorways, coordinates, and fabrics were created for the fashion line. For example, density was developed through contrasting sections of machine knitting and hand knit linen paper or silk tape yarn. Silhouettes were developed through draping. As textile and fashion design occurred concurrently, the garment shapes informed the design of of the dimensional textiles.
